Easy to Moderate

Discover the big and beautiful bay like never before with our new interactive boating experience, the Bonne Bay Explorer. Using rugged Zodiac watercraft, and traveling in small groups, we’ll venture deep into the two connecting fjords that make up the aquatic heart of Gros Morne National Park. We’ll land on shore and visit forgotten coves and resettled communities, discovering the places most visitors never see. Experience the rich history and culture of the area while learning first-hand the geological process that shaped this remarkable area and provided the foundation for Gros Morne’s UNESCO designation.

Landing on shore provides our guests with the unique experience of retracing the footsteps of the hardy early settlers that risked it all to carve out their homes here. Whales, porpoises, caribou and moose are now the current residents of many of these old homesteads and are often seen during this one of a kind Bonne Bay Zodiac adventure.

*This experience takes place in an open Zodiac boat, and depending on weather conditions guests may get lightly sprayed with water as we navigate throughout the fjords and should plan accordingly. This is all part of the fun and a great way to beat the heat after a hard day hiking!!

Departure Time & Details

At 1,805 km2 (697 sq mi), Gros Morne is a big place, bigger then most visitors think, and many of the Park's attractions and activities may be some distance away from your accommodations. So, in true Wild Gros Morne fashion, we've designed our Bonne Bay Explorer boat tour with two unique departure locations to accommodate our guests staying on both the North and South side of the park.

Departure Locations

4:00 PM Woody Point Dock

4:15 PM Norris Point Dock

Just book the specified time for your location and we'll pick you up and drop you off, it's that simple. Our Bonne Bay Explorer is scheduled for 2 hours, but can sometimes go a bit longer or shorter depending on our group, any unique wildlife encounters and of course, our famous Newfoundland weather. But don't worry, we'll be back in plenty of time for guests of our Beach Boil Up at the Little Red Fishing Shed starting at 7:00PM.

Other Details

The Bonne Bay Explorer has an easy to moderate difficulty level depending on the weather conditions and your fitness level. Specialty tours can be arranged for groups looking for alternate difficulty levels or extended onshore excursions

Suggested Equipment

As you’ve already heard, Newfoundland weather can be unpredictable and conditions can vary greatly throughout the day. Even in the hottest months of summer in Newfoundland can be quite cool. We suggest guests check the weather and dress accordingly for it. You may want to take a day pack with water and a snack, a rain/waterproof jacket, semi-warm sweater and comfortable sturdy footwear suitable for an open boat adventure.

Weather Cancellation Policy

The weather in Newfoundland can change frequently and at Wild Gros Morne we check the weather more than most people check their Email. Experiences may be adjusted or cancelled if necessary to ensure the safety of our guests and staff.

Off Season Departures

Reservations are required 24 hours in advance for May, June, September and October. Departures during these months are based upon customer demand. For short notice reservations please contact us.
