Big Adventure. Small Footprint

Fresh Ocean Air

Traditional boat tours run on huge diesel engines that pump exhaust into the fjord. Our modern 4-stroke engines meet the strictest standards, so you breathe fresh ocean air, not fumes

Less Noise

Sound travels 4x faster underwater. Large vessels create noise pollution that stresses marine life. Our quiet motors allow us to view wildlife respectfully without disrupting their natural behaviour

Low-Impact Travel

We practice Low-Impact Tourism, instead of crowding 100+ people onto a single deck. This reduces pressure in sensitive areas and ensures your experience is authentic & sustainable

Everything You Need To Know

Common questions about boat tours in Gros Morne including logistics, safety, and the experience.

How is this different from Western Brook Pond?
Western Brook requires a 45-minute hike to reach the boat. Our tours depart directly from the dock in Shoal Brook (drive-up access). We use open-air Zodiacs for an intimate experience, while they use large enclosed ferries.
Do I need to hike to the boat?
No hiking required! You can park your car at our location in Shoal Brook and walk just a few steps down the wharf to board the vessel.
Will I get seasick?
It is unlikely. Our deep-V hull Zodiacs cut through waves rather than rolling. The fresh air and 360-degree views prevent the motion sickness often felt in enclosed cabins.
Is it safe for young children?
Yes, we are parents ourselves and always have our daughter out on boat. We welcome kids and we strongly recommend the "Bonne Bay Explorer" Family Charter, which is hands on and more interactive.
What wildlife will we see?
We frequently see Bald Eagles, Terns,Dolphins, Minke and Humpback Whales. While nature is unpredictable, our captains know the best spots for sightings in the fjord.
Are there bathrooms on the boat?
No, Zodiacs are open vessels without washrooms. We recommend using the facilities at our office in Shoal Brook immediately before departure.
What happens if it rains?
We operate in light rain and provide waterproof ponchos for guests if requested (it adds to the atmosphere!). If conditions are unsafe or miserable (high winds/heavy rain), we cancel and offer a full refund or reschedule.
Can I bring my camera?
Absolutely. This is a photographer's dream. We recommend a neck strap. While the ride is smooth, saltwater spray is possible, so a protective bag is wise.
Do you provide life jackets?
Yes. We provide Transport Canada-approved PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices) or full flotation suits depending on the weather. You must wear them at all times.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes. Because our intimate Zodiacs only seat 10 passengers, we often sell out during June, July and August. We highly recommend booking online as soon as your dates are confirmed.
Where is the best place to stay nearby?
For the most convenient experience, we highly recommend our sister property, Waters Edge Gros Morne. It offers boutique suites and glamping pods right on the water in Shoal Brook, just steps from our dock.
Is parking free?
Yes, we have free parking available for our guests right at our location in Shoal Brook.
How early should we arrive?
Please arrive 20 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time to get fitted for your PFD and complete the safety briefing.
Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are welcome on our Private Charters only. We cannot allow pets on public scheduled tours for the comfort of other guests.
What is the best time for photos?
The "Golden Hour" (evening) tours offer spectacular lighting on the Tablelands. Morning tours often have the calmest water for reflections.
Is the boat wheelchair accessible?
Due to the nature of Zodiacs (climbing over the side tube), they are not wheelchair accessible. However our docks are wheelchair accessible and the guest can then be carried aboard and seated if requested.
Is it safe for pregnant women?
We generally advise against any boat tour for women in their third trimester as the ride may be bumpy depending on ocean conditions.
What should I wear on the boat?
Dress in layers! The temperature on the fjord is often 5-10°C cooler than on land. We recommend:
  • A windbreaker or waterproof shell (Essential)
  • A warm sweater or fleece
  • Sunglasses (for glare)
  • Flat, comfortable shoes
What if I need to cancel?
We offer a full refund for cancellations made 48 hours in advance. Within 48 hours, the booking is non-refundable unless we cancel due to weather.
Do you offer private tours?
Yes! You can charter the entire vessel for your family or group. This gives you flexibility on timing and route. Contact us for a quote.
