Discover one of Gros Morne’s best-kept secrets with a guided interpretive hike along the Trout River Pond Trail, combined with a post hike pick up by our scenic water taxi. This 7km easy to moderate trail winds it’s way along Trout River Pond and the south side of the Tablelands, through shaded boreal forests and wind swept serpentine barrens. The trail provides magnificent views of the Tablelands and the glacier carved valley of the pond, including the breathtaking "Narrows" where the two ponds meet.
Learn about the geological significance of the area and the role it played in Gros Morne receiving its UNESCO designation along with the many unique plants and animals that call this place home. Hear the interesting stories about how the pond was used by the community over the years including logging, hunting and other cultural activities. Our tour takes us down to water level where guests can relax on the beach, look at the multicolored rocks or dip there feet in the cool refreshing water. There is no rush as your guide will radio the water taxi for pick up once the group is ready.
The Trout River Pond trail holds a special place in our hearts. Not only is it just steps from our home, but the trail head starts directly from our dockside kiosk on Trout River Pond, providing guests with a great jumping off point to begin their day with us.
